Abstract

This research revolves around the names of mandūb according to the Hanafi legal theorists and their juristic effects according to them. The research has established that these names are synonymous among these legal theorists—contrary to what is understood from their expressions in some places in their books—and that their books of jurisprudence are the ones that differentiate between them, based on the variation among the degrees of mandūb in terms of emphasis and lack thereof. The research also discusses the juristic effects resulting from the differentiation between some of these names, which are based on variation in rank. These effects include worldly ones, such as demanding performance in this world from one who abandons the emphasized Sunnahs and not others, considering it prohibitively disliked for one who persists in abandoning those Sunnahs without an excuse, and mildly disliked for one who abandons them occasionally without an excuse. They also include otherworldly effects, such as deeming sinful one who persists in abandoning these Sunnahs without an excuse and not others, deprivation from intercession, and so forth. God is the One who grants success in attaining what is correct and success in righteous deeds, without doubt.
