Abstract

Climate change has intensified concerns over the unsustainable use and unequal distribution of natural resources. This research paper examines these challenges in the light of Qur’anic teachings. According to Quran nature is an ownership of Allah Almighty and human beings are His stewards who are responsible for preserving ecological balance (mīzān). Drawing on relevant Qur’anic verses and interpretative scholarship, the study explores key principles such as moderation, justice, accountability, and the prohibition of corruption (fasād) in the use of natural resources. It argues that the Qur’an places inherent moral and social constraints on overexploitation, waste, and inequitable access to resources—issues central to the climate change crisis. By linking Islamic environmental ethics with contemporary climate concerns, the paper highlights the relevance of Qur’anic guidance for sustainable development and environmental governance, and contributes to a values-based approach to addressing climate-induced resource challenges.
